Neidin was based in Dunmore East from 2009 to 2013, so we were never far out of sight of the iconic and impressive Hook Head Lighthouse. This is the World's oldest functioning lighthouse, illuminating the entrance to the River Suir for more than 900 YEARS NON-STOP! We have rounded her countless times, and homed in on her welcome beacon from many many miles away. Indeed Hook Lighthouse can be seen from a distance of 30 miles in clear weather, and you can find yourself looking at it for up to 5 or 6 hours as you rerturn to home to Waterford from a Westerly direction. event off Hook Head. We brought two groups of 5 ladies out sailing in rough conditions as part of a Waterford City Council initiative.
Lez Kompa and Jim Kompa aboard "Neidin" off Hook Head in the summer of of 2012. Jim and Lez were regular visitors aboard Neidin, and we completed many passages in and about Waterford and Dunmore East. Great sailing days!
"Neidin" sailing past Hook Lighthouse in the company of "Wilde Swan", a Dutch twin-masted topsail schooner of 1920's vintage. She was originally built as a fishing trawler, but now operates as a sail training vessel. The Wylde Swan is the largest topsail schooner in the world, and she sets a blistering pace. Photo. FOC.

Fia O Caoimh, Se Gilna, Cordula Hansen, and Sergiy Budnyev on a 13 hour passage from Dunmore East to Dun Laoghaire. Great sailing. 10 knots on several occasions as we rounded Carinsore. 11 knots on two occasions. August 2013.

Skipper Dermot Greer, Kevin Doyle, Garrett Connell, Shona Leydon, Fearghal Nolan, and Fia, sailing "Yola" off Hook Lighthouse in June of 2010. Five wonderful days sailing with Dermot and his "Sailing Ireland" training school. I still regularly meet Dermot in various harbours along the South and East Coasts, and indeed I bumped into him in Aberystwyth, Wales, this year as we were both "motherships" to two rowing teams in the Celtic Challenge Race.
