Carina and Mikey in charge as Neidin routes northwards through Dalkey Sound to Dun Laoghaire on 11th Sept 2018. Mikey is part of the intrepid SIMS gang who join us once yearly for a blast around the bay. The winds were light, but we did get to look in posh peoples windows as we toured along the coast going Southwards. This Dalkey Sound tour is a virtual "Who's Who" of the great and good in Dublin, and we have accumulated stories to go with the impressive properties, many of them about infamous rivalries or monies owed!

Colliemore Harbour is far too small for us to berth, but it is a delightful happening on all of our transits through Dalkey Sound. The harbour is always bustling with visitors, tourists, swimmers, fishermen, and day-trippers waiting to catch the tiny ferryboat out to the island. A contingent of 170 British soldiers once occupied the island, and mantained its Martello cannons. The tower, the chapel, and the armoury, can still be seen to this day, and you can immagine the island buzzing with redcoats. Photo SHB.

I always liked this rather esotheric shot of Colliemore Harbour. A lone fisherman has the harbour all to himself on a "dreamy" Tuesday morning. This photo was taken by me as part of the Wonderful Ireland series, and it catches the seas and skies converging in the mist. Photo FOC.

Colliemore Harbour attracts some very brave and foolhardy cliff divers in the summer months. Even when the tide is fully in, it is like diving into a tiny saucer of water. Colliemore was a vital port for Dublin between 1300AD and 1500AD because Dublin Port was silted over and entirely impassible. Photo FOC.

Coliemore Harbour was once home to the tired old Dalkey Island Hotel. It had a terrible restaurant with the ultimate sea view!
As close and personal with the Muglins as we ever want to get. Fia on the helm of Neidin as we route tight around the Muglins. We may look relaxed, but we are watching out for everything, depth, contours, currents, and lobster pots. A lovely gentle sail in perfect weather. 28th October 2018.
