Great sailing with Carina, Cormac, and Delia and Fia, in strong winds and turbulent seas on 24th August 2019. 18 to 20 knot winds and metre high swells made for uncomfortable sailing, but nobody seemed to dwell on it too much. Sails well furled down throughout. BBQ and a great Leonard/O Caoimh sing-song aboard afterwards went on deep into the night. Joined by Ken and Sas, and later by Tom and Pam (from American s/y "Stealin Time"). Photo FOC.

Shore power unit failed prior to departure, but Georgio and Fia tracked down the fault and corrected it. 26th September 2019. Photo FOC.

Exhilerating night exercises in Dublin Bay on 3rd September 2019 alongside Derek Coffee's excellent s/y "Bendemeer". 20 to 25 knots of wind and flat seas made for great boatspeeds and lots of excitement. Crew on "Neidin" comprised of Michael Flaherty, Tony McGregor, Peter De Kanovic, and Fia O Caoimh. Textbook arrival back into DL Marina in extremely high winds where we were joined aboard by the crew of "Bendemeer" (and also by my cousin Cormac Leonard). Great evening!

Susan O Donohue, Lesley Willis, and Clare Dennehy (three of the infamous "Beours with Oars" Rowing Team) aboard "Neidin" racing "Bendemeer" from Dun Laoghaire to the Kish Lighthouse and back. "Neidin" won the outbound leg, while "Bendemeer" won the return passage. A really great day's sailing with lots of banter and rivalry between the two crews. 14 knot winds, and 6 knot boat speeds in moderate seas. Skipper was Fia O Caoimh.. 8th September 2019.

The first of two days of sailing in Dublin Bay with the unsinkable "Beours with Oars". Lesley, Susan, Claire, Derek, and Fia on 8th Sept 2019.
Neidin being hauled out by Miguel, Eric, and the lads at the RIYC for annual maintenance, antifouling, and anodes. We applied a two-year Micron 350 self-polishing antifoul finish this year in order to bring us up to Spring of 2021 (hopefully), and back into a spring mantainance routine. Tues 27th Aug 2019.

We cooked our engine on the way back from Wales, and ended up with such an extensive parts list that it was cheaper to buy an all-new Volvo Penta "Rebuild" engine. Joe Martin and Fia built a temporary timber floor over Neidin's varnished soul, lined the timber panelling with cardboard, and set to work. It was a daunting task throughout, from re-welding new mounting brackets, to re-building the injector pumps, to understanding the certrafugal governor system. The new engine is fresh-water cooled, a distinct improved on the original. The installation took 5 weeks in total, but was well worth the effort. May/June 2019.
Neidin's new engine is lifted into place by Miguel and the lads from The Royal Irish Yacht Club. Fia on hand below to align it with the mounts and prop shaft. May '19.

New factory-rebuilt Volvo Penta 2003B engine aboard and ready for installation.
JJ, Annette, Peter Kanovic, and Fia aboard "Neidin" on Saturday 14th Sept 2019. Very low winds to begin with, so we practiced "Man Overboard" recovery techniques followed by berthing exercises at the North end of the marina. The wind finally arrived and wer had great sailing off DL in approx 15 knots. Skipper FOC.
Great night exercises on the evening of Thursday 26th September 2019 with Derek, JJ, and Fia. Winds were forecast at 20 to 30 knots from the South West and they didnt disappoint. Very fast boat speeds with small sails and moderate seas. DL to Killiney Bay to Poolbeg and back. A very fast re-entry to Dun Laoghaire Harbour under big sails with Derek on helm and Fia on winches. A great evening out on the water! Skipper FOC.

Sailing solo across Dublin Bay in near-perfect conditions on 20th Sept 2019. Poolbeg twice from DL. Good boat speeds in 15 to 18 knots of wind.
